The New Zealand Game Developers Association (NZGDA) is excited to announce the winners for this year's Kiwi Game Starter!

First Place: Before We Leave by Balancing Monkey Games

Before We Leave is a non-violent city building game set on multiple planets in your own cozy corner of the universe.

Runner Up: Trigger Witch by Rainbite

TriggerWitch is a 2D, twin-stick, action/adventure game set in an odd open world where magic is mundane, but firearms are the new unknown! You are Colette, and as you graduate from the Stock, a curious man invades your world...

Finalist: Pinball Heresies by Mostly Tigerproof

Pinball Heresies takes the fixed flipper hinges in conventional pinball and attaches them to a player controlled track. This track wends its way through very wide tables filled with a menagerie of different targets.

Finalist: Seedlings by Bardsley Creative

In the forests of New Zealand, sentient seeds have started to appear. Play as a seed and control different plant creatures with unique abilities. Solve puzzles to work your way through the forest while humanity tries to understand the situation.

2019 Kiwi Game Starter

Kiwi Game Starter is the NZGDA’s annual game development award and startup programme for interactive games businesses and startups. The competition aims to improve the commercial outcomes for NZ developers working towards completing their games. Key area’s that the judging panel will look at include; originality and technical / creative innovation as well as commercial prospects.

Thanks to the support of Tim Ponting and the NZ Film Commission, the four titles will be competing for a NZD $25,000 first prize with a mentorship support service, and a NZD $10,000 runner up prize. The runner up will also receive support.
